Perspective

Feb-42008

I just got a bit of perspective.  With my embedded dev kit for the Micro .Net framework - once the SD interface is supported, with a $14 2GB SD storage card, I'll have 518.xxx times the storage of the first computer I owned (which was almost $500 at the time, and had NOT persistent storage capability as shipped, which the SD card does have.)  And this is for a system that's built to not have a user interface and be inexpensive enough to almost throw away (read deploy remotely without a recovery plan.)  While I agree that Moore's law isn't a law in a Scientific sense (I do listen to you Ronnie) - it still is a humbling concept.

No UI huh? Well maybe not a visual one but if you as a human interacted with something in some way to get something done then I'd say there was a "UI" for sure ;)

Well, there's definately an API, but you'd have to build the UI (User interface) yourself. Granted that's pretty easy to do - it can be as simple as the old "put an LED on it and blink when something happens" model. :-)
