Oh, my! "Rainbows End" as a free download from Dr Vinge!

Yep, just saw it this morning - BoingBoing has the details - http://www.boingboing.net/2007/11/28/vinges-brilliant-rai.html

Pull it down and read it.  Then buy a copy to keep or pass around.  This book is completely full of ideas and thoughts around where we'll be in the next decade or so.  I've got Chris reading on it now.

Another way to get the Architecture Journal

If you're like me, you already get at least an electronic copy and possibly a hard copy as well for those times when you can't have the laptop out (such as on takeoff and landing.)  Well as of today, you can also get it through the new handy, dandy, WPF based Architecture Reader app found at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=dd466bbb-1b7d-438e-9f9a-954ce2058f15&displaylang=en .  Just like www.xiine.com, which I use for my Code Magazine reading, the Architecture Journal reader not only does all the nice formatting for me, it also makes sure to pull down the latest copy when it's available.  This is starting to be what I have always thought about when people talk about having Software Agents go to work for us.

SharePoint Hosting

We're getting the local Austin SharePoint user's group going - and I ran across this.  Again, since I'm trying to blog the useful items, I just ran across a hosting offer for small SharePoint sites.  It's only 5 user and 5MB, but for a small announcement board or user group coordination site, it would be quite sufficient.

The info is at the SPSFAQ site - http://www.spsfaq.com/2007/11/free-sharepoint-site-in-25-mins.htm
