RobbleHead Doll

OK, I had to do it.  Take a look at Chris' interview with Rob Howard.  Listen to the message, because it's a good one.  Done?  Now re-watch it and look over Rob's right shoulder.  That's a RobbleHead Doll.  I want to know where I can buy one!  We should have them for all our Regional Directors, probably for all our MVP's as well!

Guidance and examples for Service Oriented Architecture

Chris Madrid (former co-worker from a number of various companies) just let me know that his team at MCS has just released their Services Engine reference implementation on CodePlex.

I don't see that this is up on the team blog yet, so I'm going to quote in order to make sure I don't leave anything out.

--------------------------------

"The Managed Services Engine (MSE) is one approach to facilitating Enterprise SOA through service virtualization. Built upon the Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) and the Microsoft Server Platform, the MSE was developed by Microsoft Services as we helped customers address the challenges of SOA in the enterprise.
The MSE fully enables service virtualization through a Service Repository, which helps organizations deploy services faster, coordinate change management, and maximize the reuse of various service elements. In doing so, the MSE provides the ability to support versioning, abstraction, management, routing, and runtime policy enforcement for Services."

(updated to be more accurate for the team's charter.)

One for the holiday.

Josh Holmes has a nice post (and interview) talking about the Boo language.  Quite appropriate for a Halloween evening's reading.

Austin SharePoint User Group

After meeting with the Houston SharePoint Users Group a couple of weeks ago, I found out that there's a new SharePoint User group in my own back yard!  The Austin SharePoint user group has already had it's first meeting (which I missed) and the second meeting is fast approaching.  Details below - look to see you there if you're around Austin and can make it.  I've already agreed to be a stand in panelist if there's need for one, but I hope we've got enough community people talking that I can attend and save my stories for a bit later!

--------------------

You spoke and we listened, the most requested hot topic was “Migrating to SharePoint 2007 (MOSS)”.

Therefore, for November's meeting, we will have a panel to answer questions about migrating to MOSS from prior SharePoint versions. Each member of the panel will briefly share and highlight best practices, hot tips and lessons learned, followed by questions. This exciting meeting offers you access to MOSS specialists, in an interactive environment that encourages peer discussion and networking.

November 14th- Call for Panel Members: We have 3 panel members lined up: Brad Freels, technical solution expert from Microsoft, Matthew McDermott, MOSS specialist and Microsoft SharePoint MVP from Catapult Systems, and Dwayne Rodi, System Engineer from Dell SharePoint team.

We Need You! We need 1 or 2 more panel members to join. If your team has completed a migration and would be willing to be on the panel, please contact the group Organizer, Angela Reeves (AReeves@iediscovery.com). All you need to prepare is 5 minutes of “My Top Tips for Successful Migration”, and be available for questions. (And of course, please feel free to encourage the rest of your team to attend that night to support you!)
